Your Guide to Summer Fun with Your Kids – Indoors & Outdoors

Summer is here, school is out and the kids are at home. To help you make this the most memorable summer yet, we’ve compiled a list of our favorite things to do with kids.

Indoor Activities

Don’t let the Louisiana heat and humidity put a damper your summer plans. Thankfully, there’s no shortage of indoor activities to keep your kids occupied.

DEFY Baton Rouge Trampoline Park

DEFY Baton Rouge is every kids’ dream come true. Kids can jump on the trampolines, rock climb, dive into a foam pit and much more. It’s an easy and exciting way for kids to burn energy without over-heating outdoors. Parents can either sit comfortably in the AC or join their kids on the trampolines! You’re never too old to jump.

Prices: Tickets are available for 1, 1.5 and 2 hours sessions. One hour session rates are $13.64 for 7 & older, $10 for 6 & younger and FREE for 2 & younger. 

Lil Bambinos Indoor Playground

Lil Bambinos is the perfect place for you to take your young kids when it’s too hot for an outdoor park. They have a variety of different play structures and other assorted activities, such as crafts, story-time, and puppet shows. You can throw a fabulous birthday party here or visit for open unlimited playtime. Visit the calendar for open playtimes.

Highland Park Observatory

Kids of all ages are welcome to come view the sky, look through telescopes and learn something new! Also, they roast marshmallows and do a variety of fun and educational demonstrations. Knock Knock Children’s Museum

Knock Knock Children’s Museum is a large children’s museum that features various areas for playtime with your little ones open. Many activities are interactive and educational. You can visit Knock Knock on Tuesday-Sunday.

Price: Visitors- $14. Ages 23 months & under get in for FREE. 

Java Mama

Java Mama is an indoor playground specifically designed for ages 5 and under. They have a trained staff of caregivers, so you can take some time off and relax for a few hours in the Java Mama cafe. Read a book, drink some coffee, and catch up on your emails while your kids have fun. This place is the ideal indoor playground for when you just need a break!

Prices: Monday – $6 open play ALL DAY! Tuesday – Saturday – $8.75 for children 12 months and older, $6/each additional child, $5 for children ages 6 to 11 months. 
Ages 5 months and under always get in for FREE. Finally, Happy Hour- $5 open play, during the last hour of business and $1 off Javachinos (Tuesday through Saturday)

Laser Tag of Baton Rouge

Playing Laser Tag is an exciting way to spend a hot afternoon. Laser Tag of Baton Rouge boasts the largest laser tag facility in the region, with multiple levels and several different game styles. This is fun for kids that are 46” or taller, as well as parents. Or, if you aren’t up for playing with your kids, you can always watch the action from the observation deck. When your kids get tired of laser tag, there’s also an arcade and virtual realm that your kids can have fun in!

Circle Bowl

The sound of a bowling ball crashing against the pins is a staple of the summer. To get your bowling fix, Circle Bowl is a great family spot. This family spot offers a variety of play games and sessions for a better bowling experience.

Safari Quest Ropes Course – Hammond

A ropes course is the perfect activity for brave and fearless kids. Participants are safely harnessed and go through a series of obstacles suspended high off the ground. This is a memorable adventure for kids that are thrill-seekers! Safari Quest also offers laser tag with no age or height restrictions. Plus, you’ll find an arcade.

Outdoor Activities

If the weather is manageable, slap on some sunscreen and hit the outdoors! These activities will wear your kiddos out for a good night’s sleep. 

Baton Rouge Zoo

The Baton Rouge Zoo is always a fun option for an all-day activity. With over 1,800 animals, there’s always something fun to see. Your kids will also learn more about the endangered species and conservation efforts all over the globe. This trip is fun and educational!

Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center

Bluebonnet is a beautiful park with several hiking trails and boardwalks. They also have an exhibit building which houses Louisiana wildlife, as well as exhibits that kids can interact with. This is a great way to introduce your kids to the beauty of the Louisiana swamps.

Frisbee Golf

Frisbee Golf is a fun game for the whole family. There are several different parks throughout the Baton Rouge area that have courses, so if your kids love it, you can do it again. Courses range from 18-holes to 21-holes. Pack a picnic and make a day of it!

Berry Sweet Orchards

At Berry Sweet Orchards, you can pick your own blueberries! And since everything is organic, you can eat as you go. You can stay and pick as many as you want, and at the end, you can just pay for your blueberries by the pound. I recommend calling the farm ahead of time to make sure there are plenty of blueberry bushes left to pick from.

Liberty Lagoon

When it’s too hot to do anything else, a waterpark is always a fun and cool option. Liberty Lagoon offers waterslides, a lazy river, pools and much more.

Blue Bayou

Blue Bayou is another great water park option with over 20 attractions. From crazy water slides to a relaxing lazy river, they have it all. It’s a great way to cool off and have fun this summer.

Tiki Tubing

If you want to cool off, but don’t love water parks, tubing might be for you. At Tiki Tubing, you can spend the day floating down the river with your family. Along the way, you can stop at several sand bars and spend some time on the “beach.” Be sure to bring plenty of sunscreen! Snacks and drinks might be a good idea too, but no pets, glass or styrofoam are welcome.
