Coastal Conservation Association of Louisiana will be hosting the Ride the Bull Kayak Tournament in Grand Isle in late August.

The event is touted as the “World’s Largest Extreme Kayak Fishing Tournament.”

This is the tenth year of the tournament and the fourth time CCA will be hosting it.

Ride the Bull is now the largest fishing kayak tournament in the world, according to CCA.

The tournament will be held at Bridgeside Marina in Grand Isle on August 23  and 24.

The fishing portion of the tournament will be from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 24.

Online registration ends on Monday, August 19. Anglers can register by visiting the CCA LA website.

After that date, anglers are asked to register at Bridgeside Marina beginning at 3 p.m. on Friday, August 23.

Anglers are required to have a saltwater fishing license and human-powered vessel.

Weigh In

Weigh in will be open during fishing hours on the dock at Bridge Side Marina specified at the Saturday morning Safety Meeting. All competitors may catch and keep only 1 redfish over 27 inches. Competitors may catch, weigh and release an unlimited number of redfish in accordance with LDWF regulations.

Any fishermen who has called the weigh boat or a tournament chase boat by the 2:00pm cutoff time on August 24, 2019 will be allowed to weigh in their catch. If an angler calls after the deadline, the catch will not qualify. There will be no exceptions to this rule. Official time will be kept by the Tournament Director.

Anglers are strongly urged not to wait until the last minute to submit their catch for weigh-in. All fish submitted for weigh-in must be fresh and caught during the tournament.

The weigh-in official(s) will make decisions on accepting fish for weigh-in, their decision is final. Any attempt to enter fraudulent catch, exchanging catches, tampering with catch, or hampering or threatening any official of the tournament will result in immediate disqualification. Only authorized persons will be allowed in the weigh stations.

Fish will be weighed in the order in which they are checked in.  The largest fish will be determined by weight. In the event of a tie, the first of the fish entered will be considered the winner, and the other will be dropped to the next position. (Redfish will be bent, and loosened straight before being measured with a pinched tail to ensure they are 27″ or longer.) Frozen, spoiled, gutted or mutilated fish will not be eligible for entry.

Due to a new IRS regulation, we are not allowed to give cash as a prize anymore. So our sponsors have stepped up to load up each winner with gear that will far exceed the previous years value. As the actual items for each prize are confirmed, they will be posted here and our Facebook page.
