Cool off the dog days of summer at the Abita Springs splash pad

Cool off for free at the Abita Springs trailhead splash pad. Children and pups are welcome!

The sticky Louisiana heat can reach up to (and sometimes over!) 100 degrees Fahrenheit. I call that the dog days of summer — too hot. An easy way to cool off is at the Abita Springs park and trailhead splash pad.

The splash pad is a free concrete spot right next to the Abita Springs Trailhead Museum. The itty-bitty water park is open to all ages.

While I’m not positive pups are always welcome at the splash pad, the fellow visitors didn’t seem to mind at the time I was there. If you want to bring your dogs, I recommend being courteous and asking the surrounding splash pad frolickers if they mind. Definitely, I know pets are not allowed on the adjacent St. Tammany Trace, so keep that in mind on your adventure to the Abita park.

As far as I know, the splash pad is open all the time. Walk up and push the magic button to begin. However, if you have any questions or concerns about the splash pad, call 985-892-0711.
