BREC stocking 3 fishing ponds with catfish this fall

BREC has stocked three of its fishing ponds with catfish this October, as part of its Geaux Fish initiative.

On Oct. 7, 2020, the fishing ponds at Howell Community Park, Perkins Road Community Park, and Palomino Park were be stocked with channel catfish. See more information on park locations at the bottom of the article. 

UPDATE: On Oct. 21, 2020, the fishing pond at Burbank Park was stocked with channel catfish by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. 


BREC will not be hosting its annual Fall Geaux Fish Catfish Rodeo due to COVID-19 but organizers say will be hosting two photo contests for anglers to win prizes while fishing at the three stocked ponds.

BEFORE YOU HEAD TO THE POND: How to purchase/renew Louisiana hunting and fishing licenses

For the first contest, organizers will be tagging 14 catfish that will be stocked in the three ponds. Participants who catch one of the tagged fish can submit a photo fo the fish and a photo of the number on the tag to win a prize. 

Participants can only win one prize and each tagged fish can only be claimed once. This contest will run at the start of the stocking Oct. 10 to Oct. 31. Submit your photos of the tagged fish to

The second contest is for all ages and skill levels and encourages those visiting BREC ponds to take pictures of themselves fishing; whether you catch anything or not! The photo contest will run Oct. 10 to Nov. 15. Submit your photos for this contest to
