In this week’s BIGFISH report, Captain CT Williams says the speckled trout are biting, at least, if you're west of the Mississippi River.
Improving Conditions In Coastal Fishing
At least for now, Louisiana’s coastal fishing is doing well despite our high river levels and spillway opening.
A second opening of the Bonnet Carre Spillway could change that, but for now, Captain CT Willians says many of our coastal water hot spots are producing when conditions are fair.
The west side of the Mississippi River seems far less affected by the river’s record volume of spring water.
Speckled Trout Are Starting To Bite!
Like kids and Christmas holidays, eager Anglers anticipate spring and great speckled trout catches.
One morning this week started out beautifully as Captain CT Williams and Captain Mike Guidry of Rippin Lips Charters at the public boat launch Golden Meadow, LA.
They left focused on finding speckled trout as they make their breeding move towards saltier water.
“The fish are showing up along the coast and in their transition moving towards the coast,” Guidry explained.
Look For Shell Islands And Reefs
He also says this year is a great time to fish what’s left of the area’s rapidly eroding shell islands and reefs.
They started fishing the Lake Raccourci area and initially only had a few speckled trout taking the bait.
But things started to heat up once an incoming tide brought cleaner, saltier water in from the Gulf of Mexico.
Captain CT recommends fishing the west side of the Mississippi River for speckled trout especially if there is a second opening of the Bonne Carree Spillway.
