Lack Of Cold Fronts

It looks like cold fronts trying to get through New Orleans are having as much trouble as the Los Angeles Rams did going the Saints.

Even as fall in hitting it’s full stride water temperatures are roughly 10 degrees warmer than usual.

Nonetheless, speckled trout and reds have definitely moved into our marshes.

Now that’s good news for anglers because marsh fishing will likely be strong for the rest of the year.

Duck Hunting Season Opens In South Louisiana

However, this weekend is the opening of duck hunting season and many ponds will have decoys and hunters for much of the morning and possibly evening hours.

Now that means anglers and hunters can end up in the same pond at the same time.

While both have an equal right to be there, you need to know there are laws that favor the hunter.

“There is a law on the books in Title 56, that the harassment of a person lawfully hunting is against the law,” explained Lt. Adam Young, of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

New Permit Required in Plaquemines Parish

Now if you’re duck hunting in Plaquemines Parish, there is a new permit required. But, unfortunately, there is some confusing information floating around about it.

“Wildlife and Fisheries will not be enforcing that parish ordinance. The Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement Division does not enforce parish ordinances. However, we do work in conjunction with the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Truth is, for the latest information on this permit and where to get it, you should call the Plaquemines Parish government.
