For $25, you can get a three-course dinner at Elsie's Plate and Pie during Restaurant Week (July 29 - August 3).
With over 40 restaurants on the Restaurant Week lineup, I had to take a closer look at (and taste of) just a few. Stepping into the spotlight and showing off a few special menu items today is Elsie’s Plate and Pie.
Just to catch you up: Here’s why you’ll want to eat out every night this week in BR!
Elsie’s is one of those restaurants I have always wanted to go into, but never took the opportunity to do so. However, with this week’s discounted menus, it’s a spot that’s too tough to pass up. Chef and owner, Paul Dupre, walked me through some items on the menu for Restaurant Week (July 29 – August 3).
For $25, you can get an appetizer, entree and dessert at Elsie’s. Because they are famous for their pies, I was most excited to taste the desserts. And, boy! They did not disappoint.
I got my hands dirty with some blueberry and lemon pie nachos, which are a special version of a regular menu item. Seriously, these were the bomb dot com. A heaping pile of hot pie crusts is topped with blueberry coulis and lemon glaze. I want more just thinking about them now.
Another new item coming out of the kitchen this week is the mango and peach hand pie. Dupre told me that he isn’t a big fan of mango, but he loves the way this hand pie turned out. And he should be pleased because this mango and peach pie is a perfect combo of sweet and slightly tart.
For the third dessert option on the Elsie’s Restaurant Week menu, you’ll see the chocolate, chocolate, chocolate pie. I didn’t get to try this one, but I may have to go back just to get a spoonful of it.
Of course, there are more than just dessert options on the special menu. One of my favorite savory selections was the goat cheese and pepper jelly appetizer. Also, a great savory dish is the pot pie. Serving this week is the new Philly cheese steak pot pie. Dupre said the this special version of their regular pot pie may be the restaurant’s all-star dish of this busy week.
You can get a hold of the whole menu (and other restaurants’ menus) here.
Reservations are not required, but it’s certainly not a bad idea to pick up the phone and reserve a table at most of the participating restaurants. However, Elsie’s is one of those spots that does not take reservations during this week. It’s a first come, first served basis.
Find them on 3145 Government Street. The store is open during regular hours this week. Stop in Monday 11:00 am – 9:00 pm, Tuesday-Thursday 11:00 am – 10:00 pm, Friday and Saturday 11:00 am – 11:00 pm and Sunday 10:00 am – 9:00 pm.
