We hit the home stretch of Carnival this week when some of the largest superkrewes get ready to roll. Nearly three dozen parades span across New Orleans and its surrounding areas.
The Mystic Krewe of Nyx gears up for its ninth ride at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday along the Uptown route. The all-female superkrewe plans to honor beloved FOX 8 anchor Nancy Parker who was selected as the parade’s grand marshal before her tragic death last year. Riders will toss personalized push purses with angel wings and Parker’s initials on them as a tribute.
Actress and comedian Jennifer Coolidge rides with the Krewe of Muses as the Honorary Muse for the parade’s 20th anniversary. Coolidge will lead the parade in the krewe’s iconic shoe float, a 17-foot tall fiber optic-encrusted red pump. The all-female krewe rolls at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, along the traditional Uptown route.
“From the first time I saw the Muses parade, I was wowed by its creativity and uniqueness. I’m so flattered to be chosen to lead this extraordinary parade powered by women,” Coolidge said in a release.
From Arthur Hardy in today’s paper 📰 Women on the Rise! Women’s krewes now total over 10,000 members. They credit Muses…
Friday kicks off with a trio of parades rolling Uptown starting with the Krewe of Hermes.
Saturday brings out the Krewe of NOMTOC, one of the only two remaining West Bank parades, at 10:45 a.m. in Algiers. The krewe celebrates 50 years with a 26-float procession and the theme, “’NOMTOC’, 50 Years Strong in Algiers.”
More than 3,000 riders will parade through Mid-City when Endymion rolls at 4:15 p.m. on Saturday. The superkrewe’s parade theme for 2020 is “Historic Dynasties.” One of the floats called the “Endymion Dynasty” will feature the likeness of krewe captain Ed Muniz.
Endymion altered its 2020 parade route due to the Hard Rock construction collapse. Also, the massive Endymion Extravaganza will take place in the Morial Convention Center due to improvements happening in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The music lineup for the 2020 Endymion Extravangza includes Tim McGrax, Styx and Train.
FOX 8 is your home for exclusive coverage of the Endymion parade and extravanganza starting at 8 p.m., on-air and streaming online.
