Get Out & Fish and Attend A Farmer’s Market This Saturday

BATON ROUGE, La. (THE LOUISIANA WEEKEND) - Louisiana is known for outdoor sports including fishing. If you are ready to teach your children to fish, the city of Walker has an event for you, Get Out & Fish on Saturday, May 13, 2023 from 9:00am until 1:00pm. The Get Out & Fish event is sponsored by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.  It is a program that helps and encourages people to get out to fish.  Every three to four months, the Louisiana Department Wildlife and Fisheries stocks various fishing ponds.  They recently stocked Sidney Hutchinson Park with catfish and bass.

The Get Out & Fish event is co-sponsored by the award-winning Walker High School Fishing Team.  Team members will be on site to help the children with casting, putting bait on the hooks, and fishing etiquette. Loaner fishing poles will be provided.

The city of Walker is also partnering with the monthly Farmer’s Market featuring over 40 booths selling organic fruits and vegetables and handmade crafts.  Attendees can purchase Mother’s Day gifts as there will be a lot of vendors selling custom arts and crafts.  There is no need to pack a lunch, as Food trucks will be on site along with music provided by DJ K-Jack.
