6th Annual Baton Rouge Soul Food Festival

BATON ROUGE, La. (THE LOUISIANA WEEKEND) - The 6th Annual Baton Rouge Soul Food Festival takes place May 18, 2023, through May 21, 2023, at Riverfront Plaza, 300 River Road, in Baton Rouge. This festival begins on Thursday, May 18th at Henry Turner Jr.’s Listening Room on 2733 North Street with a “Greens, Beans, and Chicken Wings Pre-party”. Pre-party tickets are $30.00 at the door and include a buffet and a no host bar.

The main festival on May 20th and May 21st is family friendly and free to the public. The festival is open from 11:00am until 8:00pm each day. There will be a Vendor’s Village and Food Court where attendees can indulge in soul food dishes. Attendees can also enjoy Blues, Soul, R&B, Funk, Jazz, Rock, Contemporary Christian, Gospel, Motivational Rap, and Reggae music along with spoken word and storytelling.

One of the highlights of the festival is a soul food cooking contest both Saturday and Sunday. Categories include “Meats and Fish”, “Vegetables and Sides”, “Appetizers and Soups”, “Breads and Desserts”, and Beverages and Drinks”.

The Soul Food Pioneer Award honoree is Sean “Boss Hogg” Huey of Café' Express. The award presentation is 4:30pm Saturday.
