BATON ROUGE, La. (THE LOUISIANA WEEKEND) - From festivals, parades, crawfish boils, the art of celebration is a part of Louisiana culture. While we have recently enjoyed Mardi Gras parades and St. Patrick’s Day parades, Louisianans were excited to learn of another parade in April. This parade is sentimental, because it celebrates the NCAA National Champions, LSU Women’s Basketball Team.
The NCAA tournament was certainly thrilling to watch. LSU Women’s Basketball Coach Kim Mulkey’s outfits were also a sight to see each game. From the sparkly butterfly sequins jacket to the iconic sequin tiger business suit, Kim Mulkey stood out.
These sparkly items were designed by LSU graduate and Louisiana business owner, Jaime Glas, who is also known as the Queen of Sparkles. As a native of Louisiana, Jaime is honored to design outfits for Coach Mulkey and team members. We spoke with Jaime to learn the inspiration behind the sparkly outfits and her thoughts on having her designs be a part of herstory.
Jaime Glas has made herstory in other areas as well. She holds a Bachelor of Science in International Trade as well as a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering, both from LSU. She is the first business to make flame resistant clothing for women with her Haute Work brand. That brand was acquired by National Safety Apparel in 2019. Jaime subsequently founded Queen of Sparkles in 2021.
Queen of Sparkles is a clothing and accessory brand that offers the Queen Mulkey collection, as well as collections for most holidays and seasons. Her designs are on the shelves in many Baton Rouge area boutiques and boutiques across the nation. For more information on Queen of Sparkles, visit HERE.
