Learn How to Boil Crawfish the Cajun Cowboy Way

BATON ROUGE, La. (THE LOUISIANA WEEKEND) - Eating crawfish is a way of life in Louisiana. Families and friends gather for crawfish boils so often in spring, that crawfish has its own season. Go anywhere in Louisiana, and you will meet someone who will tell you how many pounds of crawfish they can eat. Today, we will show you how to boil crawfish. We visited Cajun Cowboy Kitchen and spoke with the BR cowboy, Kendell King who gave us so many tips on boiling crawfish. Here’s some quick and easy steps to boiling crawfish.

Step 1: You must start with live crawfish. Wash live crawfish in cold water.

Step 2: Heat and season your water. You can find crawfish seasoning almost anywhere in Louisiana including supermarkets, restaurants, and sporting goods stores. Cajun Cowboy Kitchen sells red magic seasoning if you want to recreate his signature crawfish taste. Be sure to sample the water to be sure it is seasoned properly.

Step 3: Add crawfish and bring to a boil.

Step 4: After boiling, let your crawfish soak in the pot for at least 20 minutes.

Step 5: Strain and plate.

Step 6: Eat!
