August 5th is National Oyster Day

BATON ROUGE, La. (THE LOUISIANA WEEKEND) - August 5th is National Oyster Day.  Louisiana is the best place in America to get oysters.  Let’s visit Jolie Pearl Oyster Bar to learn all of the different ways they prepare oysters and to join their shellabration.  Louisiana has a rich history of cultivating the Eastern Oyster for more than 200 years.  Americans eat around 2 billion oysters per year.  Each day, 1.3 million Louisiana produced oysters are consumed somewhere in the United States.  Oysters can be eaten raw, chargrilled, baked, or fried.  A lot of restaurants in the capitol region are serving up oysters.  We stopped by Jolie Pearl Oyster Bar in downtown Baton Rouge to get a peek inside of their National Oyster Day Shellabration.  Like many restaurants in Louisiana, Jolie Pearl has fresh oysters delivered daily.    For the Shellabration, Jolie Pearl is offering an oyster sampler for $20.  They will also have live music from 8pm to 11pm this evening.  Happy National Oyster Day, I’m Keiristin Wilbert with The Louisiana Weekend.
