The Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival is This Weekend

Ponchatoula, Louisiana — BATON ROUGE, La. (THE LOUISIANA WEEKEND) - The 50th Anniversary of the Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival is April 8th through April 10th at Memorial Park in downtown Ponchatoula, Louisiana. Ponchatoula is known as the strawberry capital of the world. Between 250,000 – 300,000 people are expected to attend the festival this year. There’s so much to do at the festival including eating all the strawberry foods from chocolate covered strawberries to strawberry shortcake to strawberry daiquiris. Be sure to visit farmers row to get all your favorite strawberry foods.

Gates open at noon Friday when you can visit vendor booths and enjoy carnival rides. All vendor booths are operated by non-profit organizations as a way for them to make money for their various charitable causes. At 5:15pm Friday, the Strawberry Royalty will be introduced followed by a performance by the Chase Tyler band and Category 6.

Saturday, April 9th will begin with a parade through downtown Ponchatoula at 9:30am. Saturday will also be filled with events such as the egg toss and strawberry eating contest. Nashville South, The Dominos, Louisiana Spice, Waylon Thidodeaux, Paris County Line, and more bands will perform on Saturday.

There will be another Strawberry Eating Contest on Sunday as well as many musical performances from Will Vance, The Phunkey Monkeys, Tyler Kinchen & The Right Pieces, and more.

This year’s Festival Queen is Avery Meyers, Ponchatoula native who comes from a long line of strawberry royalty.

This year’s Festival King is Carl R. Wells who has been a member of the board since the inception of the Strawberry Festival.

The Festival Blossom is Willie Mae Vicknair Cummings. She represents the hard-working strawberry farmers.

The Grand Marshal is Margaret McKneely Joiner, a Ponchatoula native who has attended every single strawberry festival.
