‘Tis the season: Here’s where to ice skate along the Gulf Coast during the holidays

Here's our list of where you can ice skate this time of year.

Do you want to pretend you're in a winter wonderland? There's several places you can go along the Gulf Coast to throw on some ice skates and live out your winter fantasies!

Ice Skating on the River

Dec. 21 – Dec. 31
The Raising Cane’s River Center in Baton Rouge transforms into a winter wonderland for the holidays. The ice skating season kicks off on Friday, Dec. 21. the fun-filled holiday event for all ages will have 90-minute skating sessions until Dec. 31. Tickets are on sale now for $12-$14 per person with special group packages for parties more than 10 people.

Penguin Ice Skating

Opens year-round
Penguin Ice Skating brought a 2,000 square-foot, permanent ice skating rink back to the New Orleans area when it first popped open in August 2018. The attraction is located on the second floor of Esplanade Mall, near the Target entrance. Although the rink is actually synthetic, the glide is the same as real ice. Penguin Ice Skating offers public skating sessions during mall hours. Esplanade Mall hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and  Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. Admission is $15 per person, which includes skate, helmet and pad rentals.

Ice Skating at the Coliseum

Nov. 9 – Jan. 6
With the only public ice rink between Lafayette and Pensacola, the Mississippi Coast Coliseum offers one of the Coast’s most exciting cold-weather pastimes. Twelve dollars will get you a 90-minute session at this rink. The fee includes a rental pair of skates. See the ice skating schedule here.

Kenner Christmas Village

Nov. 24 – Dec. 30
A 1,800-square-foot, synthetic skating rink, which returns to the Kenner Christmas Village this year. The Kenner Christmas Village illuminates Kenner City Park this holiday season with lights and animated scenery starting on Nov. 24. The attraction opens Friday to Sunday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Admission to the event is free. The attraction closes on Dec. 30.

NOLA Christmas Fest

Dec. 21 – Dec. 31
The family-friendly indoor Christmas festival at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center features an ice skating rink. The 52-foot by 140-foot indoor rink is open from Dec. 20 to Dec. 31.  You can bring your own skates or use the ones that are provided on site. Socks are required to secure skates. Parents are welcome to bring helmets for their kids. Private skating lessons are available as well. Hours vary; click here for hours of operation. General admission tickets to the fest are $20.
