Eat, dance and experience several international cultures without leaving the Capital City. The BR Capital City Rotary Club, BREC and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana invite you to join them for another wonderful Global Community Day Celebration.
The fun takes place on Sunday, October 6 from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Find the activity at the BREC Community Park on Highland Road. Also, the event is free and open to the public.
Guests of all ages are invited to explore cultural exhibits. Try your hand at identifying international flags. Or, just snack your way around the world by trying the ethnic foods.
Visitors will get a free World Visitor Pass to travel from country to country. They will learn about the different nations and get their passes stamped. No real passports are necessary to enjoy this travel experience!
Besides the games, stick around for the dances. Members of Baton Rouge’s international community dress in traditional garb to perform their nation’s customs.

You can expect to see about 30 countries represented. But, that doesn’t mean there won’t be more. Here are a few invited to join the event:
- Costa Rica
- Republic of Chad
If you’re interested in seeing your international culture represented, contact the BR Capital City Rotary Club.
During the event, Mayor Sharon W. Broome will proclaim October 6 “Global Community Day.” That sounds like a reason to celebrate. Plus, music by Henry Turner Jr & Flavor and other performers will make this an entertaining day.
Join the day to have fun and to take that one small step toward achieving peace in the community. You can expect to see WAFB Channel 9 there to help sponsor this year’s event!
Again, experience it all Sunday, October 6 from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the BREC Community Park.
