Drago’s Coming to Baton Rouge

Drago’s Seafood, best known for its charbroiled oysters, appears to be interested in a Baton Rouge site located on Constitution Avenue near College Drive and Interstate 10.

Records show property owners of the former Blockbuster at College and I-10 have requested a zoning change and the owners of Drago’s, the Cvitanovich family, confirms they are looking to bring their restaurant to Baton Rouge, but would not say exactly where.

“We are looking forward to being able to bring our charbroiled oysters to Baton Rouge,” Cvitanovich said. “We’ve been trying for some years now to open a Drago’s in BR, but it wasn’t the perfect deal yet which has to be good for us and the landlord.”

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) – Drago’s Seafood, best known for its charbroiled oysters, appears to be interested in a Baton Rouge site located on Constitution Avenue near College Drive and Interstate 10.

The request involves rezoning the property suitable for restaurant use and alcohol sales. The zoning must be approved before it could turn into a restaurant. Because it is not a done deal yet, current owner Tommy Cvitanovich would not say where exactly they’re looking at to open what would be their fifth restaurant.

The request will go before the city-parish planning commission on March 18.

Drago’s is known for their charbroiled oysters when founder Drago Cvitanovich first opened the restaurant in Metairie, La in 1969. They’re celebrating 50 years this year. Drago’s has a locations in Jackson, Mississippi, New Orleans, Metairie and Lafayette.
