The Red Stick Farmer's Market is always full of abundant and fresh local produce and goods, but Saturday is all about the tomato! Here's what you should know about their event, Tomato Me Crazy.
The market begins at 8 a.m. at Fifth and Main streets in downtown Baton Rouge.
From Farm to Table
At the market, you’ll find tomatoes in all colors, shapes and sizes available for purchase. You’ll even be able to talk to the farmers that grow them! If you want to start growing some tomatoes of your own, they have tomato plants as well for you to take home.
Contests and Activities
Not only will there be the usual kids activities, there will also be the annual “Tomato Count Contest.” You could win special tomato prizes and gift certificates from the market.
Ruffino’s Executive Chef and Owner Peter Sclafani will be at the market at 10 a.m. to prepare a seasonal dish centered around, you guessed it, the tomato. He will also explain why its so great to by local food as well as provide samples from the demonstration!
Father's Day Gifts
With Father’s Day around the corner the market is the perfect place to pick up a last-minute gift! Several vendors will have great local options for the dad who likes to be in the kitchen.
