CAAWS Mystic Krewe of Mutts Parade paws through Downtown on Feb. 9

The CAAWS Mystic Krewe of Mutts Parade is CAAWS’ largest annual fundraiser with all proceeds benefiting the CAAWS Spay & Neuter program.

It’s a ‘Fairy Tail” come true! The CAAWS Mystic Krewe of Mutts parade paws through North Boulevard Town Square on Sunday, Feb. 9. The event begins at 10:00 a.m. in Galvez Square and the parade follows at 2:00 p.m. This year’s theme is “Fairy Tales.”

The Capital Area Animal Welfare Society (CAAWS) hosts the 21st annual Mystic Krewe of Mutts event as the shelter’s largest fundraiser. All proceeds benefit the CAAWS’ spay and neuter program to affect hundreds of cats and dogs in the Baton Rouge community. By spaying and neutering, the animal society helps keep the pet population down, and ultimately, decreases euthanization numbers, according to their website

Bring your pup dressed in purple, green and gold. Or, come portraying your favorite fairy tale story to compete in this year’s paw-some costume contest. The costume contest is at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday. To compete in the costume contest, you must register before judging begins. Online registration is now closed, but you may register at the CAAWS shelter on Saturday, Feb. 8 from 11:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. There will also be a booth until 1:30 p.m. on the day of the event for last minute registrations.
