The Bonnet Carre Spillway is having a significant impact on Southeast Louisiana’s inshore estuary.

However, the state’s favorite target species, Speckled Trout and Redfish have found ways to survive.

Redfish being tolerant of freshwater have simply moved out to marshes mostly on the east side of Lake Borgne.

Speckled Trout have had a tougher time with smaller fish having to find the best conditions they can inside protected waters and larger specks moving out towards the Chandeleur Island chain.

Captain CT Williams says both species are being caught, especially by the area’s guides.

Hiring one might be a good idea this summer.

At the same time, the west side of the river is enjoying a normal to above normal year of speckled trout.
