One of the best aspects of $40 Foodie Fix is getting the opportunity to explore the ever-changing, growing and expanding culinary scenes in Baton Rouge and this weeks episode is probably one of our most diverse yet. Come with us as we taste some of the southern soul, South Pacific and south of the border flavors you can find around town.
Breakfast: Zeeland Street
What started as a passion for wholesome healthy cooking has turned into a neighborhood hot spot for one local restaurant. At Zeeland Street, off of Perkins Road, their food is prepared with the freshest locally sourced ingredients, a whole lot of heart and a little southern soul. Don’t take our word for it, you have to go try their shrimp and grits for yourself!
Lunch: Southfin Southern Poke
Poke has made its way from the Hawaiian Islands right here to Baton Rouge. But what is poke? The word itself means “to cut” or “to dice” with is an adequate description for this dish traditionally made of diced tuna and veggies served over rice. At Southfin Southern Poke they’re combing the flavors of the South Pacific with the traditions of the Gulf South, creating a dish you do not want to miss.
Dinner: La Carreta
Taco Tuesday’s getting a makeover at La Carreta and boy does it look good! Choose your tortilla, flour or corn? Then pick from classic tacos like carne asada and carnitas or pick a new favorite like cauliflower (yes cauliflower!). Can’t decide which one to order? At $2 a taco on Taco Tuesday, why not try them all!
