2018 Kids Summer Guide

Summer is here, school is out, and the kids are at home. To help you make this the most memorable summer yet, we’ve compiled a list of our favorite things-to-do with kids.

Indoor Activities

Here in Louisiana, heat and humidity can put a damper on even the best of ideas. Thankfully, there’s no shortage of indoor activities to keep your kids occupied.

Area 51 Trampoline Park

Area 51 is every kids dream come true. Kids can jump on the trampolines, rock climb, dive into a foam pit, and much more. It’s an easy and exciting way for kids to burn energy without over-heating outdoors. They have different hours for different ages, as well as times that are for all ages. Parents can either sit comfortably in the AC, or join their kids on the trampolines! You’re never too old to jump.

Lil Bambinos Indoor Playground

Lil Bambinos is the perfect place for you to take your young kids when it’s too hot for an outdoor park. They have a variety of different play structures and other assorted activities, such as crafts, story-time, and puppet shows.

Highland Park Observatory

Kids of all ages are welcome to come view the sky, look through telescopes, and learn something new! They also roast marshmallows and do a variety of fun and educational demonstrations. Other events are offered throughout the week. This is a great way for your kids to have fun and learn something at the same time.

Knock Knock Children’s Museum

Knock Knock Children’s Museum is open Tuesday-Sunday and features various areas for playtime with your little ones while also being educational

Java Mama

Java Mama is an indoor playground specifically designed for ages 5 and under. They have a trained staff of caregivers, so you can take some time off and relax for a few hours in the Java Mama cafe. Read a book, drink some coffee, and catch up on your emails while your kids have fun. This place is the ideal indoor playground for when you just need a break!

Laser Tag of Baton Rouge

Playing Laser Tag is an exciting way to spend a hot afternoon. Laser Tag of Baton Rouge boasts the largest laser tag facility in the region, with multiple levels and several different game styles. This is fun for kids that are 46” or taller, as well as parents. Or, if you aren’t up for playing with your kids, you can always watch the action from the observation deck. When your kids get tired of laser tag, there’s also an arcade that your kids can have fun in!

Circle Bowl

Bowling is a great family activity. If your kids are young, you can have the bowling alley put up the bumpers, making the game fun and easy for all ages! Safari Quest Ropes Course

A ropes course is the perfect activity for brave and fearless kids. Participants are safely harnessed in, then go through a series of obstacles suspended high off the ground. This is a memorable adventure for kids that are thrill-seekers! Safari Quest also offers laser tag with no age or height restrictions, and an arcade.

Outdoor Activities

If the weather is manageable, there’s a plethora of fun outdoor activities for you and your kids! And if the heat is unbearable, there are outdoor options that keep you cool in the water.

Baton Rouge Zoo

The Baton Rouge Zoo is always a fun option for an all-day activity. With over 1,800 animals, there’s always something fun to see. Your kids will also learn more about the endangered species and conservation efforts all over the globe. This trip is fun and educational!

Global Wildlife Center

More interactive than the zoo and perfect for animal lovers, Global Wildlife offers the unique experience of being able to pet and feed animals. The Safari Tour takes you through the 900 acre preserve and gets you up close and personal with over 4,000 animals. You can hand-feed giraffes, zebras, llamas, and more!

Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center

Bluebonnet is a beautiful park with several hiking trails and boardwalks. They also have an exhibit building which houses Louisiana wildlife, as well as exhibits that kids can interact with. This is a great way to introduce your kids to the beauty of the Louisiana swamps.

Frisbee Golf

Frisbee Golf is a fun game for the whole family. There are several different parks throughout the Baton Rouge area that have courses, so if your kids love it, you can do it again. Pack a picnic and make a day of it!

Berry Sweet Orchards

At Berry Sweet Orchards, you can pick your own blueberries! And since everything is organic, you can eat as you go. You can stay and pick as many as you want, and at the end, you can just pay for your blueberries by the pound.

Liberty Lagoon

When it’s too hot to do anything else, a waterpark is always a good option. Liberty Lagoon offers waterslides, a lazy river, pools, and much more.

Blue Bayou

Blue Bayou is another great water park option with over 20 attractions. From crazy water slides to a relaxing lazy river, they have it all. It’s a great way to cool off and have fun this summer.

Tiki Tubing

If you want to cool off but don’t love water parks, tubing might be for you. At Tiki Tubing, you can spend the day floating down the river with your family. Along the way, you can stop at several sand bars and spend some time on the “beach.” Be sure to bring plenty of sunscreen!
